Ceramic and induction hob repair in Barcelona
We repair radiant ceramic hobs and induction hobs across Barcelona and the metropolitan area. They're very different technologies underneath, and confusing the two leads to wrong diagnoses: a radiant hob heats an element under the glass, while induction generates a magnetic field that heats the base of the pan directly.
Quick answer
On a radiant ceramic hob, a zone that won't heat is usually the radiant element or its relay; on an induction hob, it's typically the IGBT power module or the cooling fan. Unresponsive touch controls are almost always moisture or a dirty glass surface. We repair both types at your home in Barcelona within 24–48 hours.
Common faults and what we check
| Symptom | Likely cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| One zone won't heat while the others work | Failed radiant element (ceramic) or a faulty IGBT power module (induction). | We measure the element's resistance or test that zone's power module, and replace the specific component. |
| Touch controls don't respond, or operate on their own | Moisture or grease on the glass, or a control board with a degraded capacitive layer. | We clean and dry the touch area, check the ribbon connector and assess the control board. |
| The hob switches itself off after a few minutes | Overheating protection: a stalled cooling fan or ventilation blocked by the cabinetry. | We replace the fan and free up the ventilation beneath the worktop. |
| An error code on the display (E0, E2, F...) | Temperature sensor, inter-module communication, or incorrect mains voltage. | We read the code against the manufacturer's list and isolate whether it's a sensor, communication or supply fault. |
| The induction hob won't recognise the pan | A pan without a ferromagnetic base, or one smaller than the zone's minimum diameter. | We test with a reference pan. If your cookware is the problem, we tell you rather than charging you for a repair. |
| Cracked or broken glass | Impact, or thermal shock from cold liquid hitting a hot zone. | We price the complete glass against a new hob and give you both figures. |

Radiant ceramic or induction: what fails on each
On a radiant ceramic hob, under the glass sits a resistive element with a thermal limiter. The faults are electromechanical and relatively simple: failed element, welded relay, tripped limiter. These are usually affordable repairs.
On an induction hob, each zone has a coil and an electronic power module using IGBT transistors switching at high frequency. That's power electronics, and it's heat-sensitive: hence the cooling fan, and hence the fact that the most common fault is the module for one specific zone. When the whole module on a premium hob fails, it's worth comparing the part cost against a new hob before deciding.
The mistake that ruins the most induction hobs
Fitting the hob above an oven without respecting the clearance and ventilation the manufacturer specifies. Induction needs to draw air from underneath to cool its electronics; if the cabinet is sealed or the oven heats it from below, the power module runs permanently at its limit and its service life shortens dramatically.
If we've repaired a hob for overheating and we spot this, we'll point it out: without correcting the ventilation, the fault will come back.
Unresponsive touch controls: before you call us
- Dry the glass thoroughly. A film of water or grease over the sensors is enough to lock out the touch controls.
- Check the child lock. Almost every hob has one and it's easily switched on by accident with a cloth while cleaning.
- Kill the power for five minutes at the consumer unit and switch it back on: it resets the control board.
If it still doesn't respond after that, the fault is real and a visit makes sense.

Frequently asked questions
Can just one zone of the hob be repaired?
Yes. On ceramic hobs we replace the element for that specific zone; on induction, the corresponding power module. There's no need to replace the whole hob unless the shared control fails.
My induction hob keeps switching itself off — why?
Almost always overheating protection: the cooling fan has stalled or the cabinet ventilation is blocked. It's a common and repairable fault, but the underlying cause needs correcting too.
Is it worth replacing the glass if it has cracked?
It depends on the model. On mid-to-high-end hobs the glass with its frame can cost a significant fraction of a new hob. We give you both figures on the visit and you decide.
Why won't my induction hob recognise some of my pans?
Because induction needs a ferromagnetic base. Test with a magnet: if it doesn't stick to the bottom, that pan won't work. There's also a minimum diameter per zone, usually around 12 cm.
Can touch controls be repaired?
If the problem is moisture or dirt, cleaning and drying solves it. If the capacitive sensor or the ribbon connector is damaged, the control board is replaced.
Do you repair mixed gas-and-ceramic hobs?
Yes, we cover both parts of the appliance. The gas side is handled under the same safety protocol as a full gas hob, ending with a soundness test.
