Gas hob and cooker repair in Barcelona

We repair gas hobs, dual-fuel cookers and freestanding gas ranges across Barcelona and the metropolitan area. On every gas job we carry out a soundness test before we call the work finished: that's what separates a proper repair from a botched one.

Quick answer

The most common gas hob faults are a dirty spark ignition, a worn thermocouple (the burner goes out when you release the knob) and blocked injector jets. We repair gas hobs and cookers at your home in Barcelona within 24–48 hours, with a fixed price and a soundness (leak) test included.

Common faults and what we check

SymptomLikely causeWhat we do
The burner won't light from the sparkIgnition electrode fouled with grease or cracked, or a worn-out spark generator. We clean or replace the electrode and check the spark generator on every burner.
Lights, then goes out when you release the knobWorn thermocouple, or one sitting out of the flame path.We replace the thermocouple and reposition the probe so it sits in direct flame.
Yellow, uneven or sooty flameBlocked jet, dirty burner crown, or a badly set air/gas mixture. We strip and clean the jet and crown and reset the primary air intake.
The knob is stiff or has seizedHardened grease on the valve spindle, or a tired internal spring. We strip, clean and regrease the valve with gas-rated grease, or replace it.
Smell of gas near the cookerPerished manifold gasket, loose union, or an out-of-date flexible hose.Soundness test with a detector, replacement of the leaking component and a re-test.
Converting between butane and natural gasInjector jets sized for the wrong gas.We fit the complete correct jet set and reset the low-flame setting on every burner.

Gas safety: what to do if you smell gas

If you smell gas: turn off the isolation valve if you can do so safely, ventilate by opening windows, do not operate switches or light any flame (a single spark is enough), leave the property and call your gas distributor's emergency line. Only afterwards, once the installation is made safe, arrange a technical inspection of the appliance.

We repair the appliance, not the property's gas installation. If we find the leak is in the installation rather than the cooker, we'll tell you so you can contact your distributor or a registered gas installer.

Thermocouples and safety valves: why they exist

Every modern gas hob has a thermocouple flame-failure device. It works like this: the flame heats a metal tip which generates a tiny electrical current, and that current holds a solenoid valve open. If the flame goes out — a draught, a pan boiling over — the thermocouple cools, the current stops and the valve shuts off the gas automatically.

So when a burner goes out as you release the knob, the fault isn't "it won't stay lit": it's that the safety device is no longer getting a signal. It must never be bypassed or forced; the thermocouple gets replaced.

Changing gas type: butane, propane and natural gas

Each gas needs a different injector jet size, because supply pressure and calorific value aren't the same. Running the wrong jets produces long yellow flames or burners that give no heat, and can generate carbon monoxide.

If you're switching from butane cylinders to mains natural gas or the other way round, we fit the complete correct jet set and reset the minimum setting on each burner so the flame stays stable when turned down.

Frequently asked questions

My burner goes out when I let go of the knob — what is it?

That's the thermocouple, the safety device that shuts off gas when it doesn't detect a flame. As it ages it stops generating enough signal to hold the valve open. It's a quick, inexpensive repair and it must never be bypassed.

Can you convert my hob from butane to natural gas?

Yes. We fit the complete set of jets for the correct gas type and reset the minimum flow on each burner so the flame stays stable.

Do you carry out the mandatory gas installation inspection?

No. We repair the appliance. The periodic inspection of the property's gas installation is carried out by your distributor or by a registered gas installation company.

Why is my flame yellow instead of blue?

A yellow flame means incomplete combustion, usually from a blocked jet, a dirty burner crown or an incorrect air setting. As well as giving less heat and sooting your pans, it's a sign worth correcting.

Do you repair gas hobs of any brand?

We work on the usual domestic brands (Balay, Bosch, Teka, Cata, Fagor, Smeg, Whirlpool, Candy and similar), subject to parts availability.

Do you check for leaks when you finish?

Always. Every job on a gas circuit ends with a soundness test before we sign the work off.
